As a member of the Finance Operation leadership team, reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the SVP Corporate Accounting provides leadership and direction for the Corporate Accounting division. Oversees Corporate accounting functions, to include: Accounts Payable & Expense Accounting, General Ledger and Fixed Assets Account Reconciliation, Financial Claims Accounting, and Investment Accounting. In addition, oversees Financial Systems and Financial Claims Data Management. Ensures accuracy of information as well as full integration and standardization of process controls for accurate and efficient financial reporting

Job Accountabilities:

* Oversees the timely and accurate completion of the Companies' accounting activities to ensure that all financial reporting requirements are met by controlling system interfaces, system edits, journal entries, etc.

* Oversees the maintenance and enhancement of all financial systems, including PeopleSoft.

* Oversees the development of future financial processes and systems to improve the Companies' strategic positioning in meeting financial obligations and reporting requirements.

* Oversees the coordination of new product accounting requirements within to ensure compliance with accounting and reporting requirements.

* Utilizes team experts to provide technical and analytical knowledge to other areas and support reporting requirements.

* Participates as a member of various boards, committees and cross-functional work teams as appointed by senior management. Maintains effective working relationships with all levels within the Companies and outside contact and agencies.

* Oversee the coordination with state examiners and independent public accountants during their examinations and at other times.

* Oversees the corporate-wide efforts to ensure compliance with the NAIC's Annual Financial Reporting Model Regulation requirements for assessing internal controls over statutory financial reporting.

* Coordinates accounting planning activities for Continuum Worldwide and Midtown Crossing.

* Acts as the financial liaison between Internal Audit Controls area.

* Develops and maintains an engaged and accountable workforce.

* Develops and maintains a fair and equitable work environment.


Requirements

* Minimum of 10 years of seasoned financial management background in accounting and financial analysis with advanced business education and experience in insurance accounting.

* Insurance industry experience and functional knowledge

* Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory accounting principles (SAP)

* Seasoned knowledge of government financial rules and regulations, statutory and management reporting, budget and cost management principles.

* Strong operational, shared-services experience.

* Considerable knowledge of various software packages such as PeopleSoft.

* Excellent planning and leadership skills.

* Ability to effectively communicate and make effective presentations to corporate officials, clients, brokers, rating agencies, and community leaders

* Ability to develop and operate within budget.

* Ability to analyze, interpret, and utilize significant data to make sound business decisions.

* Strong organizational awareness as observed through an ability to understand the influential relationships in the organization.

* Strong relationship-building skills through building and maintaining relationships or networks of contacts with people who are, or may some day be, useful in achieving work related goals.

* Strong achievement orientation as expressed by competing against a standard of excellence.

* Ability to develop or foster development of others.

* Preference for taking action to improve outcome or prevent negative outcome.

* MBA or equivalent work experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

* Keyboarding/writing/pinching (working primarily with the fingers) 1-33% of the work period
